Assistant Professor of Geography

Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Department of Urban Affairs and Geography in the College of Liberal Arts at Wright State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geography, beginning August 2016.

The department seeks candidates with a record of effective teaching, relevant scholarship, professional service, and civic engagement. The successful candidate will primarily teach undergraduate courses in foundational theories and methods. Teaching responsibilities will include such courses as Economic Geography, Political Geography, Human Geography, Urban Geography, Environmental Geography, and Applied Research. The department is looking for a person with a commitment to excellence in teaching, student advising, traditional and applied scholarship, engagement with the local and regional community, teamwork, and working in an interdisciplinary environment. The successful candidate will also provide leadership in growing the Geography program.
Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Geography in hand or evidence that the doctorate will be awarded by the time of appointment (August 2016), experience at the university level teaching three or more courses independently, and evidence of effective teaching.
Preferred Qualifications

A record of relevant scholarship (including publications and conference papers), professional service, and public engagement. Familiarity with GIS would be helpful, but is not required.
