Essential Functions:

Teaching courses in world regional geography, land formation, and environmental conditions at Clovis Community College. In the future, the geography instructor may also be required to teach physical geography, intro to geographic information systems (G.I.S.), cultural geography, and the geography of California courses when they are offered. The instructor will also be required to participate in program and curriculum development including student learning outcomes; assisting and advising the department chair in course scheduling; participating in department, division and college committees; evaluating adjunct instructors; and otherwise fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of instructional staff as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Minimum Qualifications:

Include an earned master’s degree in geography; OR bachelor’s degree in geography AND master’s degree in geology, history, meteorology, or oceanography; OR a valid California Community College Credential; OR the equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency); AND demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications:

Includes the breadth and quality of graduate and undergraduate coursework; classroom and laboratory teaching experience including the breadth of courses taught, the use of a variety of pedagogies, and integrating educational technologies into the classroom and laboratory instruction; related work experience or teaching courses in world regional geography, cultural geography, land formation, weather and climate, and G.I.S; teaching large group instruction classes; experience related to assisting in the administration of the department budget and scheduling; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; experience working with students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; related campus/community involvement; knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals; and potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth.

Conditions of Employment:

177 duty days.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is $54,029 – $81,342 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,021 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:

Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview.

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services and College President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
