This vacancy has expired and is for reference only. Duke ICS ProgramAssistant Professor of the PracticeThe International Comparative Studies (ICS) program at Duke University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of the Practice position that begins August 1, 2018. This is a regular rank renewable faculty position with a four-year term. International Comparative Studies (https://internationalcomparative.duke.edu) is an undergraduate interdisciplinary program that bridges the humanities and social sciences. Students pursue a Global Studies major that focuses on one of seven world regions through language and interdisciplinary courses. The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in the humanistic and/or social sciences prior to appointment, be engaged in research and teaching that explores comparative/global topics, and be interested in pursuing interdisciplinary and cross-regional collaborations. The selected candidate will also need to demonstrate experience or interest in teaching core ICS courses and will supervise senior theses, work effectively with students and colleagues, and contribute appropriate service in the program, including undergraduate advising. Possible disciplines include cultural geography, socio-cultural anthropology, comparative/global history, political science and public policy, environmental studies, women’s studies, postcolonial studies, and comparative literature. Given the diversity of our students we value candidates with experience teaching and mentoring under-represented students. The position carries a 2/2 teaching load with expectation that one course will be in the candidate’s area of specialization.
To apply, please submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, a writing sample or publication of no more than 40 pages, a one-page teaching statement, and an Introduction to Global Studies syllabus. In addition, the names and contact information of three recommenders must be submitted with the application. All material should be submitted electronically through the following link: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/10333. Applications received by January 16, 2018 are guaranteed consideration.
